Bangalore:
The BMP has set up a technical cell to monitor the quality and execution of all works undertaken by it.
The cell, set up on July 10, comprises eight engineers and works as an information backbone for BMP Commissioner, K. Jairaj. On the need for such a cell, Mr. Jairaj said: "The volume of work undertaken by the BMP is Rs. 1,000 crore. We need one point information gathering and assessment system." Hanumanthe Gowda, Executive Engineer of the technical cell, said members of the cell would conduct surprise inspections of road and other civil works and the materials procured for its execution.
The cell would conduct random checks of the accuracy of the bills submitted to the BMP by contractors, he said. Mr. Gowda said the cell would look into irregularities in awarding civil contracts, checking modified estimates of projects and public complaints on improprieties.
Violations of building rules would not come under the purview of the committee, he said.
