Probe leads police to land mafia

Staff Reporter

The victim was allegedly murdered during a quarrel over sharing the spoils of a deal with other members of his gang

BANGALORE: Investigation into the murder of Syed Altaf, whose decomposed body was found in the boot of an abandoned car in HRBR Layout on July 4, has revealed that land mafia was behind the killing. The police said Altaf was the kingpin of a land mafia and his accomplices had murdered him following a dispute over sharing the money they got from a land deal.

Altaf and his accomplices were involved in kidnap for ransom cases. Of late, they used to identify disputed lands and approach the people involved in the dispute with a promise to settle the deal in their favour. But, later they used to threaten both the parties and usurped the disputed land, the police said.

The police said the gang recently took Rs. 2 lakh from Chand Pasha of Kolar promising to settle a dispute over a land at Saraipalya. There was a quarrel between Altaf and his accomplices over sharing Rs. 2 lakh, and his accomplices allegedly murdered him, the police said. A team of Hennur police arrested four of Altaf's accomplices who had allegedly murdered him. The names of the arrested were given as Abdul Wajid (34), Sanaullah Khan (34), Mohammed Ibrahim (25) and Mohammed Abid (23).
