NEW DELHI: The Water Resources Ministry will adopt a "multi-pronged" strategy for achieving maximum coverage of rainwater harvesting with a holistic and integrated approach, Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz said here on Thursday. Addressing the Parliamentary Consultative Committee meeting attached to his Ministry on "Rainwater Harvesting," Mr. Soz appealed to members of Parliament to work jointly towards ensuring sustainable management of the country's water resources with active participation of all stakeholders to meet the growing demands. Mr. Soz told the meeting that in the Master Plan on Artificial Recharge of Ground Water, the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) had identified 4.5 lakh sq km that was suitable for artificial recharge of ground water. An estimated 36.5 BCM billion cubic metres of surplus surface run-off could be recharged annually.
