NEW DELHI: A man allegedly involved in three cases of theft reported from Hotel Ashok and Tamil Nadu State Guest House here has been arrested in Patna. The police claim to have recovered a laptop and a silver statue of Lord Ganesh from his possession. Hotel Ashok had reported two thefts last year in which the guests had found cash and other items missing from their rooms. In the Tamil Nadu State Guest House, Rs. 3,000 and 4,000 pounds were found missing from the victim's room. Investigations by the Chanakyapuri police established the identity of the suspect as Anil Kumar Singh Verma, a resident of Geeta Colony in East Delhi. He, however, managed to escape to Patna and indulged in a similar offence following which he was arrested. The New Delhi police got in touch with the Patna police and have brought the accused to the Capital. The police said the accused would ring up the hotel and ask for details of any guest by pretending to be his friend. He would then keep a watch on the movement of his potential victim. When the victim used to be out of the hotel, he used to pretend to be the guest and ask the reception desk to hand over the keys to a "friend" who would come visiting him. Subsequently he used to collect the keys and enter the rooms without any problem. He was also allegedly involved in running prostitution rackets since 2000.
