BANGALORE: The three-member committee of experts constituted by the Karnataka High Court to monitor the status of roads in Bangalore and suggest remedial measures has sought more time to submit its report. In a letter to the High Court, the committee said it had already submitted several reports on the roads and drains and that it needed more time to finalise and place before the court the final report. Headed by Captain Raja Rao, the committee had gone into the Banaglore Mahanagara Palike role in laying of roads, the procedures involved in calling for tenders to take up road works and the actual road work undertaken. It made several recommendations in its reports submitted so far to the court calling for more professionalism in the BMP while awarding, monitoring and taking up road, drain and infrastructure works. The committee was constituted by the High Court on September 12, 2005 following a public interest litigation (PIL) petition on the bad state of roads in Bangalore and the inability of the BMP to maintain roads. The court had on January 19, 2006 directed the BMP to explain why the recommendations of the committee in its two reports should not be accepted and why the BMP should not be directed to implement them.
