Letters to the Editor
What terrorists want to see is fear flickering in the eyes of the victims. They want the people to flinch the next time they hear a loud noise, and see them taking the longer route home. Clearly they have failed in Mumbai. The living entity called Mumbai refused to be humbled by the magnitude of the disaster. Mumbai was shocked and angered. But the terrorists failed to bring the city to its knees. Mumbai is the bulwark of India. And the blasts have conclusively proven why.
N. Sachi Chander,
Aravind Vummidi,
This is with reference to the article "A shadow on the peace process" (OP-ED, July 14). One needs to realise that the forces that were behind the Mumbai blasts wanted to derail the peace process between India and Pakistan. If the two countries enter a battle of words, they will only end up helping the enemies of regional peace. Unfortunately, New Delhi still does not trust Pervez Musharraf. If India fails to benefit from the flexibility General Musharraf has exhibited with respect to the peace process, it will have to wait for several decades before an opportunity presents itself.
