Madikeri: Much to the relief of residents of Kutta in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu, the six lorries carrying waste from Kozhikode in Kerala, seized by the Kutta Police 14 days back, were sent back to Kerala on Wednesday night, according to sources on Friday. Residents of Kutta and grama panchayat representatives had stopped the lorries, which came to dump the waste in Kodagu. The stench from the garbage was causing hardship to the public in Kutta, including children at a nearby school. The residents, at a press conference on Wednesday, had threatened to observe Kutta bandh on Friday, if garbage was not removed from Kutta. Samples of garbage were collected by pollution control board to ascertain whether it contained toxic waste.
