BANGALORE: Various Kannada writers, scholars and the Dr. Masti Venkatesh Iyengar Trust have strongly objected to a Kannada movie, which depicts plenty of violence, being named "Masti" and urged the producer to change the name. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy, Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Chandrashekar Patil, writer Doddarange Gowda and others threatened a Statewide agitation if the name of the film was not changed. They said Masti being the "aasti" (asset) of Karnataka, his name should not be tagged on to a movie dealing with violence. Mr. Doddarange Gowda said eminent persons such as U.R. Ananthamurthy, Nissar Ahmed, Baragur Ramachandrappa, Sumatindra Nadig and Girish Kasaravalli had expressed their unhappiness over the movie being named "Masti." Mavinakere Ranganathan, chairman of the Masti Trust, in a press release condemned the attitude of filmmakers in naming the film after Masti.
