Pondicherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy will launch "free rice supply scheme" at a function to mark the birth anniversary of Kamaraj here on Saturday. The scheme benefiting around 3 lakh families holding ration cards would ensure monthly supply of 10 kg of rice to every family. The Government would spend Rs. 36 crore annually to implement the scheme. The Perunthalaivar Kamaraj Krishi Vigyan Kendra has scheduled to launch a programme to plant saplings on its premises at Kurumbapet on Saturday to mark the occasion. The Government also resolved to name after Kamaraj the new Government medical college at Kadirkamam on Pondicherry-Vazhudavoor road. Chief Minister told newsmen on Thursday that the college would start the MBBS course in 2007-2008 and the Government would spend around Rs 100 crore for the hospital and the college premises. This would be the first State government-run medical college.
