Superb spell by Naresh; Imtiaz slams century

HYDERABAD: A good spell by Naresh (seven for 57) helped Syndicate Bank restrict Khalsa CC to 152 in the A-Division (two-day) league cricket championship here on Friday.

In another match, Mohd. Imtiaz's 124 helped Crown take a big first innings lead of 215 runs against Jai Bhagawathi CC.

A-Division (two-day) league: Osmania 403 for six drew with PKM CC 134 (Rajender four for 15); Brothers XI 250 (Surya Mangeshwar 66, Md. Taufiq Arif 46, Md. Sajjad Ali 44, Balu five for 35) bt Budding Stars 119 (Anil Kumar six for 18) and 87 (Anil Kumar five for 21, Rajesh Singh four for 32); Khalsa CC 152 (Naresh seven for 57) vs. Syndicate Bank 172 for four (Jitender 52, Sunil 45 not out); Jai Bhagawathi 54 (Giri five for 20) vs. Crown 269 (Mohd. Imtiaz 124, M. Rohit six for 74, Roopesh four for 78).

Big win for HPS

Hyderabad Public School trounced Atomic Energy School 69-30 on Friday to enter the final of the inter-school basketball tournament for U-15 boys and girls, conducted by the Hyderabad District Basketball Association.

The scores:

HPS 69 (Bharath 14, Asif 12, Rajashekar 10) bt AES 30 (Vikas 10, Subash 10, Bhagirath 9).

Tennis coaching centre

Badminton trials

At Visakhapatnam, the District Badminton Association is organising a district selection tournament, sponsored by the Swarna Bharati Badminton Club and Shirin Rehaman, from July 21 to 23.

The events are singles and doubles for under-13, under-16 and under-19 boys and girls, men, women and veterans (above 45 years) and only doubles for plus-30 and plus-40 men.

Entries for age group events must be accompanied by date of birth certificate. Entries close on July 19 and are to be sent to the joint secretary of the BDA, K. Rama Rao at No.11, Parvathi Enclave, Ramnagar, Visakhapatnam - 2 (cell phone nos.: 98850 65959) along with the entry fee, according to the secretary of the BDA, R. Srinivas.
