THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Most of the corporations and boards under the control of the State Government would go to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and CPI when the sharing of positions is completed by the LDF leadership. The proposal under discussion now is to allow each party to take control of the corporations and boards under the departments allotted to them. This would imply that the CPI(M) would be the biggest beneficiary in the corporation/board sharing exercise, with the CPI getting a sizeable chunk of the remaining positions. Unlike in the past, the CPI(M) is not inclined to accommodate the demands of the smaller LDF constituents for a greater number of positions in corporations and boards. The formula that was invoked by the last Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government was to allot corporations and boards without reference to the party that controlled the department concerned. The smaller constitue nts are, naturally, agitated over the CPI(M) stand and are trying their best to wrest whatever they can from the Front leader. LDF convener Vaikom Viswan told reporters after the LDF State committee meeting here on Friday that besides alliance partners, some parties that were outside the alliance but had helped it during the Assembly elections and individuals who had made a mark in their respective spheres would also be considered for chairmanship of corporations and boards. This would mean that parties such as the Indian National League (INL) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as also movements and individuals who had supported the LDF in the elections would get representation in the corporations and boards. The LDF sub-committee has been meeting over the last one week to arrive at a formula acceptable to all. Indications are that the final decision would weighted heavily in favour of the CPI(M) and CPI. The other partners may have to remain satisfied with two or three corporations each. The LDF panel is trying to complete the exercise at least by July 25.
