NEW DELHI: Khushwant Singh overcame a stiff resistance from Puneet Singh before winning 9-4, 9-5, 9-4 in an entertaining duel in the first round in the men's section in the Northern India Open squash championship here on Friday. On a day when most of the seeded players had easy outing, Khushwant found Puneet a tough nut to crack. With Puneet matching shot for a shot, Khushwant made inroads with some nice drops to unsettle his challenger. Meanwhile, Abhishek Jel Singh and Sahaj Gulati scored identical 9-0, 9-0, 9-0 wins beating Deepankar Bose and Tanveer Ahmed Hool respectively. Uttaranchal Cup football
The second Uttaranchal Cup football tournament, for men and women, will be held at the Ambdekar Stadium, New Delhi from July 20. Clubs affiliated to the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) may send entries to the DSA Secretary, N.K. Bhatia, before July 17.
