Melbourne: India `A' survived a scare before pulling off a thrilling three-wicket victory over New Zealand `A' in the four-day match of the Top-End cricket series in Darwin on Friday. Chasing 206 for a victory on the final day, India `A' was reduced to 44 for four before S. Badrinath (70 not out) and Tejinder Pal Singh (46) put on a 94-run partnership for the fifth wicket to stem the rot. Rohit Sharma (22) and Piyush Chawla (26) also contributed as India `A' reached the target in 68.4 overs. New Zealand's Jeetan Patel accounted for three wickets. India `A', which conceded a 52-run first innings lead, was off to a disastrous start, losing both the openers with just 20 on the board. Cheteshwar Pujara was run out for two, while Dhawan was trapped leg before off Patel. Also Robin Uthappa (nine) and skipper Parthiv Patel (eight) were dismissed cheaply.
Drawn match
In another outing between Australia `A' and Pakistan `A', Shane Watson made an unbeaten 63, following his first innings of 161 not out, as the four-day match ended in a draw. The scores: New Zealand `A' 332 and 153 lost to India `A' 280 and 209 for seven in 68.4 overs (S. Badrinath 70 not out, T.P. Singh 46). Australia `A' 510 and 165 for six decl. in 62 overs (S. Watson 63 not out, P.A. Jacques 48, A. Rehman four for 51) drew with Pakistan `A' 431 and 145 for four in 30 overs (Hasan Raza 50). Agencies
