Mr. Chidambaram lauded the efforts of the Tamil Sangam and Vadakku Vaasal for organising the music festival not only for the benefit of Tamils in the Capital but also for others to listen to chaste Carnatic music by eminent artistes.

Industrialist Nalli Kuppuswami, former Chennai Doordarshan Kendra Director A. Natarajan, `Kalyanamaalai' fame V. Mohan, K. Penneswaran, R. Mukunthan and S. Krishnamurthy were among those who spoke. Senior Bharatanatyam gurus were honoured on the occasion.

The inaugural function was followed by a vocal recital by Nithyasree Mahadevan.

On Saturday, Revathi Krishna will perform on the veena and on Sunday Aruna Sairam will give a vocal recital.
