New phone numbers

NEW DELHI: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited on Friday announced that subscribers of the Laxmi Nagar OCB exchange and those falling in blocks A, C, J and parts of B in Pandav Nagar and blocks C and D of Ganesh Nagar and Pandav Nagar complexes would be transferred to the School Block RSU exchange on Saturday.

About 1,350 telephone numbers with codes 2250, 2251, 2252, 2253, 2254, 2241, 2243, 2244, 2245, 2246, 2201, 2202 and 2204 will stand shifted to code 2248. All affected subscribers have been informed of the new phone numbers.

Shock over blasts

NEW DELHI: The Aligarh Muslim University Teachers' Association has expressed deep shock and anguish over the serial blasts in Mumbai.

In a statement, the Association demanded that the perpetrators of the blasts be immediately brought to book. It also expressed solidarity with the people of Mumbai and other right-thinking citizens of the country.

Situation reviewed

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Secretary R. Narayanswami reviewed the power situation in the Capital at a meeting here on Friday. Senior officers of Transco, NDMC, Power Department and discoms were present.

The meeting was informed that Delhi was able to fully meet the peak demand of 3,541 MW on Friday and there was no load-shedding. Power generation at Salal hydel plant and Rihand power plant had resumed, increasing the supply to Delhi by 130 MW.

Workshop on AIDS

NEW DELHI: Employers should take immediate steps to introduce HIV/AIDS policies at the workplace, especially for women employees, said participants at a workshop on "HIV/AIDS -- A Workplace Issue: Areas of Intervention" here on Friday.

The workshop was organised by the U.S. Embassy and a non-government organisation, "Women, Work and Health Initiative", with the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC).

Award for Sayani

NEW DELHI: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) along with Indian Radio Forum has instituted a "Living Legend Award" for special contribution to the radio industry.

The first award was presented to Ameen Sayani by Habil Khorakhiwala, senior vice-president FICCI and chairman of Wockhardt, here on Thursday.

Ameen Sayani is perhaps the best-known voice of India and a distinguished participant in development of commercial broadcasting for past 56 years.
