Patna: BJP legislator Avnish Kumar Singh on Friday surrendered in a court here in a case related to threats issued to a senior IAS officer and was given bail. Mr. Singh gave himself up before Chief Judicial Magistrate Sushma Sinha following a direction from District and Sessions Judge Mandhata Singh, whose court he had moved for anticipatory bail on July 11, to surrender before the trial court and seek bail within a month. The MLA, who was issued a show-cause notice by his party for his action, was granted bail on furnishing two personal bonds of Rs 10,000 each. Mr Singh and RJD legislator Babloo Dev, both from East Champaran district, and 50 of their armed followers had stormed the office of Transport Commissioner Pancham Lal on July 3 and allegedly threatened to eliminate him if he did not revoke the suspension on motor vehicle inspector Sunil Tiwari. Mr. Tiwari, a relative of Mr. Singh, was suspended by the Commissioner for poor collection of revenue. The matter was later brought to the notice of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who ordered the police chief to take legal action against Mr. Singh. A case was registered against Mr. Singh, Mr. Dev and others.--PTI
