CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday urged the people to plant trees on the sides of their fields, on panchayati and shamlat land and also near schools and other vacant land. These plants should be maintained properly, he said in a message on the eve of Van Mahotsava. He said his Government had taken several steps to increase the forest cover and it was proposed to plant 4.5 crore saplings during the current financial year. Escalating population, growing number of vehicles and industrial units were also contributing to pollution. Therefore, it was necessary to plant maximum number of trees to maintain ecological balance, he said. Haryana Minister of State for Forests Kiran Chaudhary also urged the people to launch a mass movement for planting more trees to check environmental pollution and maintain ecological balance.
