ANANTAPUR: An undertrial in several criminal cases Hanumantha Rayudu (32) was allegedly hacked to death by three persons wielding hunting sickles on the platform of RTC bus station here on Friday evening. Passengers began running helter-skelter immediately after the assailants pounced on Rayudu. Two of the assailants were injured seriously when escort policemen Ramanjaneyulu and Jayaram Naik opened fire on them with .303 rifles while they were fleeing. One Ashok of Raninagar here received splinter injuries. The undertrial was being brought back to District Jail at Reddypalli, near here, after producing him in the Junior Civil Judge Court at Kalyanadurg in three extortion cases and two cases of illegal possession of arms. One of the assailants Srinivasulu of Mamillapalli went to Government General Hospital after fleeing from the bus station. Another assailant Sriramulu of Vadiyampet was caught by the police during vehicle checking on the outskirts of the district headquarters. He received a bullet injury in his stomach. The third assailant, who escaped, was identified as Ramakrishna of Amidyala. A native of Kadirampalli in Rayadurg mandal, Rayudu was a pseudo naxalite and hired killer. He was allegedly involved in 14 criminal cases. Sanjay Kumar Jain, SP, said the condition of Srinivasulu was very serious. He said the attack could be traced to Rayudu's feud with one Venkata Naidu. Srinivasulu was said to be a relative of Naidu.
