Four held for Preet Vihar dacoity

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Four men who along with their accomplices allegedly committed a dacoity in the house of a doctor at Preet Vihar in East Delhi on July 10 have been arrested by the East Delhi police. The police claim to have recovered Rs. 6.5 lakhs in cash, gold and silver jewellery, a country made revolver and two knives from the accused.

According to the police, prime accused Azharuddin Badar alias Arshad, who worked in a home appliances company as a helper, was arrested on Thursday. At his instance, the police arrested his accomplices Ikram Ansari, Nadeem and Farid. The police are now looking for three more men. Two of them have been identified as Mehfooz and Sonu. The third is yet to be identified.

The police said Ruchi Jain, a doctor living in Gagan Vihar, had registered a complained about the malfunctioning of an air-conditioner in her house at a showroom in Darya Ganj this past week. Two persons, technician Sumit and helper Badar, visited her house on July 8 but could not fix the problem. They left the house telling Dr. Ruchi that they would return on July 10 to fix the problem.

In the intervening weekend, Badar, who was apparently looking for an opportunity to strike it rich, contacted his friend Nadeem, an alleged bad character of Mandawali police station. The two hatched the conspiracy to commit dacoity in Dr. Ruchi's house as he expected a huge booty. Nadeem further roped in his friends and relatives Ikram, Mehfooz, Sonu, Farid and one more person.

On July 10, Sumit fell sick and asked Badar to hand over the job card to the office. However, as per plan, Badar along with Ikram left for Dr. Ruchi's house around 12-30 p.m. on a motorcycle. His accomplices had already gathered at a park near the house. Around 2-15 p.m., Farid and Mehfooz entered the house posing as mechanics. Dr. Ruchi allowed them in. The duo first asked for water and when she went inside they forced her into silence at knifepoint.
