Krishnagiri: The distribution of two eggs a week scheme was inaugurated by the Collector, Santhosh Babu, at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School here on Saturday. He said that eggs will be provided on every Monday and Wednesday in 2,616 centres benefiting 2,61,036 children in Krishnagiri district. This includes 1,12,437 children in Panchayat union elementary schools, 76,041 in middle schools, 38,021 in Government High Schools, 2,925 in municipality schools and 31,612 children in Integrated Child Development Centres (ICDS) in Krishnagiri district.
Boiled potato
Along with this 20 gm of green gram/bengal gm will be provided on Thursday and 20 gm of boiled potato on Friday. The Collector announced that a sum of Rs.25, 000 would be provided from the Collector's discretionary fund to students from Krishnagiri district who secure the first rank in the State in the Plus Two and SSLC examinations.
Sarva Shiksha Abiyan
Similarly, a sum of Rs.15, 000 and Rs.10, 000 each would be provided to students who secure the second and third ranks in the State respectively. Under the Sarva Shiksha Abiyan (SSA) 100 per cent literacy would be achieved in Krishnagiri district by 2010.
Enrolment drive
The district administration has embarked on an enrolment drive to bring all out of school children including child labourers and dropouts back to school. All panchayat presidents in the district have been asked to bring out of school children within their jurisdiction and enrol them in appropriate alternative schools by July 15. SSA would monitor the enrolled students for retention Mr. Santhosh Babu added. In Dharmapuri, Collector M. Chandrasekaran inaugurated two eggs a week scheme at the Ilakiampatti Government Higher Secondary School. Eggs will be provided in 2,150 centres benefiting 2, 27,752 children in Dharmapuri district.
