Thiruvananthapuram: The Superintendent of the Government Medical College Hospital here has ordered an inquiry into the death of Sony Santo, 25, a patient at the Neurology Department, who died on Friday soon after undergoing an MRI scan at a private scan centre. Relatives of the patient, in complaints to the police as well as the hospital authorities, alleged that the youth had died following an overdose of a drug (contrast agent) given before the MRI scan. A post-mortem examination was conducted on Saturday at the hospital, in the presence of the Revenue Divisional Officer. There were earlier protests in front the hospital Superintendent's office, demanding that the doctor who had treated the youth be suspended. According to hospital sources, the youth had been diagnosed as having meningo encephalitis, a serious condition. The Medical College Police have registered a case and investigations are on.
