dated July 17, 1956: Former CM expelled

The Akali Dal Working Committee, meeting in Amritsar on July 15, decided that the Dal should contest the coming general elections. Sardar Gian Singh Rarewala, former Chief Minister of PEPSU and at present leader of the United Front in the PEPSU Assembly, was expelled from the party for propagating that the Dal should cease to be a political organisation and confine itself to only religious and cultural activities.
