KOZHIKODE: `The Cube,' written and directed by Manoj and Vinod and produced by Celebrations, won three awards, including the best short film, at the third ALA video festival, which concluded at Nalanda Auditorium here on Sunday. It bagged the awards for the best script and direction as well. `Maryum Lawrensum,' directed by Suveeran, was adjudged the second best short film of the five-day festival in which 141 films were screened. The film, produced by Nazar Nawaz, won also the awards for the best actor (Hari Govindan) and the best videography (Anand and Christy George). Kannur Sreelatha (`Kathirunna Mazha') and Moushmi (`Nizhalattom') shared the award for the best actress. `Nizhalattom,' directed by Sakkeer Matathil and produced by A. Ravikumar, also won a special jury award. `Lost Life,' written and directed by R. Gopalakrishnan, won the award for the best documentary. The second prize in this section was shared by `Bhagya: Janadhipathyathile Pattukari' (Shiny Jacob Benjamin) and `Iruttil Enna Pole' (Jinesh Kumar Eramom), while `Silence' (Sarathchandran Wayanad) was given a special prize. Campus short film: `Greencard' (V. Sajeev) and `Dream Merchant' (Vivek Bharathan). Second prize: `Seno' (Albert Kurien). Special prize: `Jalakangal' (Praseetha). Campus documentary: `Ways and Words' (R.G. Gopanarayanan). Films lasting less than five minutes: `You are You and I am I' (Favour Francis). Second prize: `Drisyam' (Jaleel Badshah). Music album: Sudheer Ambalappat (`Asha, Nirasha') and Tom George Kolath (`En Jeevan'). Animation film: `Ana' (K.P. Muraleedharan). Special prize: `Bulls Eye End Line Off' (John Romeo). Ad film: Evaco footcare (Sudheer Amabalappat). Telefilm (one hour): `Pather Panchaliyude Charithra Gatha' (Mahesh Panju, Kairali). Telefilm (30 minutes): `Adayalam' (N. Balamuralikrishnan, Asianet) and Violin (Manoj Kalpathoor, Asianet). Television documentary: `Ormayil' (R. Unnikrishnan, Amrita). Second prize: `Thambinte Mouna Nombarangal' (Vinod Mananthavady, Malanad Channel).. Special prize: `Mrs K.M. Mathew: Oru Snehatheeram' (Tommy Mamkoottam).
