All you budding animators and gamers out there, this is for you. In a career counselling session on animation and gaming organised by Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology (ICAT) in association with The Hindu, Education Plus in Hyderabad on Saturday, students were asked to watch out for colleges luring them with bright prospects through short-term courses. Mr. Swami Venkat, Vice-President Operations India, RedOctane Technologies Ltd. said, "Students while choosing a college should thoroughly check its background, its placement record, and where the alumni is working. Of course, Internet searches also help these days."
Creative skills
Though many multimedia institutes offer a range of short-term courses, people from the industry seem averse to them. "Short-term courses do not give job guarantee. It is a very technical field. Also the requisite creative skills are difficult to acquire in two weeks or few months," Mr. Venkat said. However, these courses can give an idea about the area a candidate wants to specialise, he added. Formal education is also recommended before one opts for a career in animation or gaming. A gamer needs to have a good sense of science subjects, since it is a very technical area. However, students from Arts and Commerce background need not lose heart. A Fine Arts degree will help them build their careers in animation. What is common to both areas is the `need of immense passion'. For detailed ICTA programmes, log on to: www.icat.ac.in
