VILLUPURAM : Minister for Higher Education K.Ponmudi launched the supply of two eggs a week programme for the student beneficiaries of the noon-meal scheme here on Saturday. To mark the launch, he distributed boiled eggs to the students of three schools, including the Government Girls' High School here. Mr. Ponmudi said Chief Minister Karunanidhi had introduced the scheme to improve the health condition of students, because, eggs were a rich source of protein. He called upon students to concentrate on their studies to improve their career prospects. District Collector Ashish Chatterjee and Chief Educational Officer S. Kannappan accompanied the Minister. In Cuddalore district, Minister for Backward Classes M.R.K.Panneer Selvam launched the scheme at Maruvai Anganwadi, Vadalur Government Girls' High School and Kurinjipadi Government Higher Secondary School.
The Minister said 2.75 lakh students in Cuddalore district were benefited by the scheme.
