BANGALORE: Vikas Yena powered Maharashtra to a 21-0 title triumph over Tamil Nadu in the Hutch inter-State seven-a-side rugby championship here at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday. In a hard-fought contest, it was Yena's speedy run and perfect finish which tilted the scale in favour of Maharashtra. Yena, who is originally from the Army, converted all his three tries to emerge as the sole scorer in the tie. Tamil Nadu had its chances, but failed to coordinate its attack. In fact, the slackness resulted in quite a few defensive lapses as well, which Yena used to his advantage to the hilt and struck twice in the first half and once in the second. Yena was adjudged as the `most valuable player' of the tournament. Earlier, Delhi beat Karnataka 31-26 in extra-time and secured the third place. Delhi won with a `golden try.' Vikas Kedam, head-marketing, Hutch, presided and gave away the prizes. The results: Final: Maharashtra bt Tamil Nadu 21-0. Play-off matches: Third place: Delhi bt Karnataka 31-26; Fifth place: West Bengal bt Manipur 45-7; Seventh place: U.P. bt Chhattisgarh 37-5.
