Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR : Supporters of Congress and Telugu Desam party were involved in clashes as the process of filing nomination papers for gram panchayat elections was marred by violence in various villages of the district on Sunday.

Influence of parties was clearly seen though the elections were not being fought on party basis.

According to information reaching here, a TDP activist of Dimmagudi village in Pedda Vaduguru mandal was seriously injured in a clash , as the two groups gathered in the mandal headquarters to file nomination papers for sarpanch's post. The injured was admitted to the general hospital here.

The police were cooperating with the Congress supporters at the behest of Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy, they alleged.
