Fill up vacancies in colleges, says AUT

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Association of University Teachers (AUT), Tamil Nadu, has appealed to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to take steps towards filling existing vacancies in government and aided colleges at the earliest.

At its general council meeting held on Sunday, the AUT also passed a resolution thanking the Chief Minister for creating a separate ministry for higher education and for bringing in legislation for a Common Universities Act, a press release here said.

All rights and privileges of teachers that were withdrawn by the previous government should be restored soon and the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education should be reconstituted with adequate teacher representation, other resolutions said.
