Coimbatore: Student performance at Anna University in Chennai improved after authorities enforced campus discipline and prevented misuse of mobile phones and the Internet, Vice Chancellor D. Viswanathan said here on Saturday. "Performance has improved by 25 per cent with students concentrating on their studies. Companies that recruited only 150 students at campus interviews have now recruited 600," he told presspersons. Following regular inspections in hostels, students gave up distracting activities, he said.
Conversational skills
They improved their conversational skills by using the communication lab facilities and spent less time on cultural activities. Prof. Viswanathan said he was confident that 55,000 of the 60,000 students completing their studies in the current batch would get jobs. "There are jobs not only in the circuit branches but also in civil, mechanical and information technology-related `core engineering' courses," he said. Recruiters came first to Anna University because of the quality students it produced, he observed.
