SACHSENRING: World champion Valentino Rossi captured his fourth MotoGP victory of the season on Sunday, winning a thrilling German Grand Prix to close the gap on overall standings leader Nicky Hayden. Rossi finished the 30-lap race at Sachsenring on his Yahama in 41 minutes, 59.248 seconds. There was a spectacular finish as Rossi held off Marco Melandri, Hayden and Dani Pedrosa in the final few metres. Rossi moved into second place in the rankings behind Hayden with 143 points and trimmed the American's lead to 26 with seven races remaining. Spanish rookie Pedrosa, who started in pole position, is third in the standings with 140 points. In the 250cc race, Japanese rider Yuki Takahashi overtook Alex de Angelis on the final lap for Honda's 200th victory. Spain's Jorge Lorenzo finished in third place and took the standings lead from Italy's Andrea Dovizioso, who finished fourth. Lorenzo has 174 points to Dovizioso's 172. Italy's Mattia Pasini won the 125cc race, beating teammate and overall leader Alvaro Bautista of Spain by just one-hundredth of a second. Bautista leads the standings by 64 points with six races left. AP
