GULBARGA: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said on Sunday that no Government could ignore the demands of the people of north Karnataka.

Mr. Kumaraswamy was speaking at a function to mark the inauguration of the Bennethora Major Irrigation Project at Heroor K. Village in Chitapur taluk in the district.

Responding to the plea of the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Government took every demand made by north Karnataka seriously.

If only the people and leaders of the region had been assertive in the past, it would not have been a backward region.

    Inaugurated

Mr. Kumaraswamy inaugurated the Government Pre-University College building in Aurad K. village and spent some time with the students.

The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the Morarji Desai Residential School and the Government Pre-University College at Revagi in Chitapur taluk.

He said the Government had been according importance to improve educational facilities. This year the Government had sanctioned 136 new pre-university colleges and 335 high schools in the State. Any delay in distributing the ration cards would not be allowed to subvert the two prestigious programmes announced by the Government to sanction Rs. 10,000 to the first girl child in a family and supply bicycles to girls attending schools.

The officials implementing the scheme had told the Government that in the absence of ration cards, it would be difficult to select the beneficiaries.
