Article 371: Congress blamed for impasse

Kumaraswamy says that party could have clinched the issue when in power

    GULBARGA: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday put paid to hopes of getting amendment to the Article 371 of the Constitution amended to include the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.

    Mr. Kumaraswamy told presspersons here that the demand for amending Article 371 had been pending for several years. Without naming the Congress, he blamed the party and its influential leaders from the backward region for the delay in achieving the objective.

    He said the Congress could have got the Article 371 amended, if it had the will. The issue had come up for discussions on several occasions and even L.K. Advani, when he was the Union Home Minister, had promised to amend the Article 371 during one his visits to Gulbarga. When pointed out H.D. Deve Gowda failed to amend the Article 371, Mr. Kumaraswamy said everybody in the State knew the contribution of Mr. Deve Gowda for the development of the State.
