BHOPAL : Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said here on Sunday that the State was an island of peace and his Government would not allow terrorism to raise its ugly head. There was a ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and its activists were under constant surveillance, he said at an anti-terrorism rally. Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said terrorism had spread its tentacles in different parts of the country over the last many years, but the series of terror attacks over the last two years presented an altogether different picture. Besides Jammu and Kashmir, terror tactics were being used to change the demographic character in the NorthEast. The UPA Government's policies were responsible for increased terrorist activities. Mr. Joshi criticised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh's public stand on SIMI. Terrorists should not be protected for the sake of vote bank politics, he said.
