Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in parts of Anna Salai, Toll Gate, V.O.C. Nagar, Kondithope, Injambakkam, Sowcarpet West, Porur, Pondeswaram, Dasarathapuram and Triplicane between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Eye camp

The Rota Vision Programme was launched at Rajan Eye Care Hospital on Friday with an eye camp and an eye donation awareness programme. Around 250 people were screened for various problems.

Counselling for drug, alcohol addiction

The Punnar Jeevan de-addiction rehabilitation project of Wisdom Medical Research Foundation has announced a free counselling programme for alcohol and drug addiction, behaviour disorders, personality disorders and marital problems. Call 2496 4919 or 2496 4404 for more information.

Medical camp

The Hindu Mission Hospital organised a medical camp at the Athananchery village on Sunday morning. Around 200 patients were treated for various problems.

Open book exam on Gandhi's life

An open book examination on Gandhi's life will be organised for schools by voluntary trust Sevalaya. Students of classes 6 - 12 can participate in the exam, to be held in the schools on September 1. Question papers will be given in advance and students are urged to read Gandhiji's autobiography `My Experiments with Truth'. Top rank holders will be awarded on October 2. Sanskrit classes

Samskrita Bharati is conducting 10-day spoken Sanskrit classes, which are free and open to all. The next batch would commence on Monday and would be held between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at 21-A, Venkateshnagar Main Road, Virugambakkam. Contact 2377 2799 or 94444 10282.

Mumbai blast deaths condoled

The Chromepet New Colony Residents Welfare Society condoled the death of the victims of the Mumbai blasts on Sunday with a procession of mourning and the lighting of candles.

Eye camp for the aged

The Centre for the Welfare of the Aged, Institute of Social Work and Research, and Udhi Eye Hospitals jointly organised a free eye-screening camp at Hanumanthapuram in Triplicane on Sunday. Around 100 elderly people were screened with 17 referred for cataract surgery.

Multimedia-training programme

The fourth batch of Friends of Police candidates underwent a multimedia-training programme on Friday at Egmore.

About 80 persons including police personnel and members of public took up the training.
