Tuticorin : Minister for Animal Husbandry, P Geetha Jeevan, on Saturday distributed awards for `Excellence in Traffic Performance in 2005-06' to 16 organisations, at a function organised here to mark the 32nd anniversary of declaration of the Tuticorin Port a major port. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board bagged the prize for having imported the highest volume of cargo (61.45 lakh tonnes of Thermo coal) during last fiscal, while the Tamil Nadu News Print Papers Limited received the award for having imported 4.7 lakh tonnes of industrial coal during the same period. The awards for the highest quantity of granite loaded in a day and handling the highest tonnage of cargo went to PSTS Thiruvairathna Nadar and Sons and South India Corporation, respectively. The South India Corporation also bagged the awards for having served the highest volume of cargo as Clearing House Agents and for having discharged the highest quantity of Thermo coal in a day as Stevedore. The other awardees included St. John's Freight System, Hari and Company, Villavarayar and Son. A unique award was presented to owners of the boat bearing registration number TTN 49, for having handled the highest volume of cargo by a sailing vessel.
