FOR ROAD WORKS: B. Nagaraj Shetty, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada, at a foundation-stone laying function for a Rs. 40-lakh road project at Muchchur village in Mangalore taluk on Sunday.
MANGALORE: Minister for Fisheries and Ports and district in-charge B. Nagaraj Shetty said on Sunday that a delegation of State Ministers would go to Delhi to hold a high-level meeting with the Central authorities to discuss issues related to the rescue of fishermen while in distress at sea and the prevention of sea erosion. Speaking to presspersons at Muchchur, he said the delegation would comprise the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers in-charge of Udupi and Uttara Kannada and himself. He said the meeting would discuss subjects such as the feasibility of construction of a sea wall or dyke to prevent sea erosion in coastal areas, the coordination between the State and Centre in matters related to the rescue of fishermen, and providing communication sets to them. The Ministers would decide on Tuesday the date of meeting to be held in New Delhi, he added. To a question on the poor condition of National Highways 17 and 48 connecting the city he said two contractors identified by the district administration would take up works on the filling up of potholes soon. As the highway from Surathkal to B.C. Road was in poor condition and it came under the limits of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) the payment to contractors would be made by NHAI, he added. Earlier, the Minister laid the foundation stone for a Rs. 10-lakh drinking water project under the "Swajaladhara" scheme at Nellitheertha or Kumpadavu in Mangalore taluk. Mr. Shetty laid the foundation stone for the Rs. 40-lakh road project at Muchchur village under Bantwal Assembly segment in Mangalore taluk. The 2-km road connecting Muchchur with Ashwathhapura would be completed in a year, he added. Mr. Shetty said nine villagers have given up part of their land for the road project .
