BANGALORE: An autorickshaw driver robbed Sarah Paular (21) from Australia of cash and camera at knifepoint and made a futile bid to rape her in the Chikkajala Police Station limits off Yelahanka on Saturday, the police said. Ms. Paular was in Bangalore on a six-week assignment to deliver lectures. She was staying at Don Bosco Church near Cooke Town. She was a part of a 20-member team from Australia. The others were in Chennai, the police said. She received a call and decided to go to Chennai on Saturday. She boarded the autorickshaw to reach the Kempe Gowda Bus Station when the incident occurred, the police said. The police said the driver took a detour and drove on Devanahalli Road. He stopped at a secluded place near Bellalli Cross. They said he brandished a knife and took away Ms. Paular's bag containing Rs. 3,000 in cash and a camera. They said he forced himself on her but Ms. Paular resisted him and ran for help. Villagers rescued her and the driver fled, the police said. Ms. Paular was subjected to medical examination at a Yelahanka hospital. Chikkajala Police have registered a case. Investigation is on. The police said Ms. Paular was unable to provide the identity of the driver or the registration number of the vehicle.
