THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A scheme to provide 7.5 million litres of drinking water daily to Mahe from Ancharakkandy in Kannur district is ready for commissioning. The scheme, conceived in 1977, had dragged on for a long time. The works gathered momentum only three years ago, Pondicherry Health Minister E. Valsaraj said here on Monday. He said the scheme would cater to Mahe's water needs for the next 50 years. He handed over a cheque for Rs.2.22 crore to Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran towards the third instalment of the cost of this Rs.15-crore project executed by the Kerala Water Authority (KWA) for the Pondicherry Government at a function at the latter's official chamber here.
