High-level team to probe attack on ashram

Special Correspondent

Attack highly condemnable, says Amit Shah

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the alleged attack on the Dantali ashram of Swami Sachidananda, considered to be a religious "guru" of the Chief Minister Narendra Modi, near Anand on Monday.

Minister of State for Home Amit Shah, who along with several other Ministers rushed to the Swami's ashram, said the attack was highly condemnable and the State Government had taken the issue very seriously.

Mr. Shah said a high-level police team would inquire into the incident.

On the face of it, it looked like a mere attempt to loot the ashram by dacoits known in central Gujarat region as "chaddi-baniyan" gang but Swami Sachidananda himself did not rule out the possibility of the involvement of the Swadhyaya Parivar behind the attack.
