Rangasamy to present budget on July 31

Special Correspondent

Pondicherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, who is in charge of Finance, will present the full-fledged budget for Pondicherry for the year 2006-2007 on the floor of the Assembly on July 31. The new Lt. Governor of Pondicherry, Mukut Mithi, will formally inaugurate the session with his customary address on July 27. A release from the Secretary to the Assembly M. Sivaprakasam said here on Monday that the budget would be presented at 9.30 a.m. on July 31.

The brief session of the House held in February had adopted a vote on account earmarking funds for the first six months (April to September) of the financial year 2006-2007 because of the Assembly elections here in May. This is the first Budget session after formation of the 12th Assembly. Congress formed a minority Government with its strength of ten members in the 30-member Assembly.

The seven-member DMK, the two-member PMK and the lone member of the CPI have extended unconditional support from outside.
