Staff Correspondent

He was a person difficult to deal with, says M.I. Savadatti

DHARWAD: The new auditorium at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) here was full on Monday with academics, agricultural scientists and others who were students and colleagues of S.W. Menasinkai.

Foundation

The occasion was a function to inaugurate Dr. S.W. Menasinkai Memorial Education and Research Foundation.

Pride

There was a sense of pride among them for being the students of such an eminent person who had steered the College of Agriculture, Dharwad, from the verge of closure to one of the best agricultural institutions in the country. Guests, including Governor T.N. Chaturvedi, lauded Dr. Menasinkai for his contribution to the growth of the university.

Remembered

Even students and colleagues of Dr. Menasinkai recalled their association with him.

First Vice-Chancellor of the university J.V. Goud, Vice-Chancellor S.A. Patil, and Chairman of Indo-American Hybrid Seed Corporation Manmohan Attavar remembered their "guru" on the occasion.

Contemporaries of Dr. Menasinkai, former Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University M.I. Savadatti, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agricultural Sciences M. Mahadevappa, and veteran journalist Patil Puttappa spoke about Dr. Menasinkai.

While Dr. Savadatti described him as "a person difficult to deal with", Mr. Patil Puttappa said only the development of the college and his students were the prime concerns of Dr Menasinkai.

Felicitated

Gouradevi, wife of Dr. Menasinkai, J.V. Goud, Mr. Manmohan Attavar, Dr. Mahadevappa, MLCs Ganesh Karnik, N.V. Patil, and C.N. Sorgavi, and Governor T.N. Chaturvedi were felicitated.

Honoured

Venkatachalapati, who sculpted the statue of Dr. Menasinkai, was honoured.
