DHARWAD: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi has said that when Karnataka is celebrating the golden jubilee of its formation what it is important is to unite the minds of the people living in various parts of the State. He was speaking after inaugurating Dr. S.W. Menasinkai Memorial Education and Research Foundation and unveiling the statue of Dr. Menasinkai at the University of Agricultural Sciences here on Monday. Though Karnataka had completed 50 years of its formation, there was a feeling among the people living in parts of the State that they were being neglected, he said. What was more important in the year of "Suvarna Karnataka" celebrations was to remove the feeling of "being neglected" and everybody had a responsibility in this regard, the Governor said. Referring to the setting up of foundations in honour of eminent persons, the Governor said in many instances, after a few years of their founding most of the foundations would go into oblivion and their basic objectives were forgotten. The Governor said the university had a crucial role to play in fulfilling the objectives of the foundation. Referring to Dr. Menasinkai Foundation, he said that he was happy to note that the foundation had people from outside the university as executive members. This would go a long way in fulfilling the objectives of the foundation. Recalling the contribution of Dr. Menasinkai, he said Dr. Menasinkai had laid a strong foundation for the College of Agriculture, University of Agricultural Sciences and started building it. "Now the only thing his students and colleagues have to do is to continue building it," he added. "Dr. Menasinkai was determined about what he wanted to do, and never compromised with principles. He was a role model not only for students but also for teachers," he said.
