Do not allow the peace process to get derailed: Mufti

Special Correspondent

He cautions against knee-jerk reactions

SRINAGAR: Disturbed at the tensions after the July 11 Mumbai blasts, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, on Monday urged India and Pakistan to respect the people's overwhelming urge for reconciliation and harmony. He asked the two countries not to allow the peace process to get derailed.

The People's Democratic Party founder said here the people of the subcontinent in general and this State in particular were worried over the developments, which followed the Mumbai blasts, casting a shadow on the peace process.

"While the massacre of innocents calls for appropriate action against the perpetrators, any knee-jerk reaction to this reprehensible act in the larger context of Indo-Pak relations would offer an opportunity to the negative elements, who see the peace process as a threat to their vested interests, to have the last laugh."
