Thanjavur: Fresh co-operative crop loans to the tune of Rs. 157.3 crore have been disbursed so far, said Minister for Co-operation Ko.Si. Mani here on Monday. He told reporters that the Thanjavur Central Co-operative Bank had disbursed Rs. 6.46 crore, the Kumbakonam Central Co-operative Bank Rs. 16.19 crore, the Tiruchi Central Co-operative Bank Rs. 6.39 crore and the Pudukottai Central Co-operative Bank Rs. 8.36 crore. The Government had so far allotted Rs. 200 crore for disbursal of loans. Crop loans would be issued until all the farmers got them. The Minister said farmers should promptly repay the loan. This was the gratitude they could show to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi who had waived co-operative loans to the tune of Rs. 7,000 crore. He said so far 3,037 farmers had been given loan waiver certificates.

Mr. Mani reviewed the functioning of the Co-operative department here. Union Minister of State for Finance S.S. Palani Manickam; Special Secretary, Co-operation department N. Vasudevan; Registrar of Co-operatives T. Prabhakar Rao and Collectors of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Tiruchi, Karur and Perambalur districts attended the meeting.
