Rajahmundry: Congress MLA Rowthu Suryaprakasha Rao on Monday described senior TDP leader Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary as `Non-Resident' of Rajahmundry. Addressing a press conference at the Press Club here on Monday, Mr. Suryaprakasha Rao alleged that the four-time MLA was making baseless allegations against the Congress and its leaders with an eye on the corporation elections, due in February 2007. "He is spending most of his time in the U.S. Whenever there is an election in Rajahmundry, he comes to the city one month ahead of it and then goes back to the U.S. So he can be called Non-Resident Rajahmundry citizen," he added. The Congress MLA said the Rajasekhara Reddy Government had done its utmost for the uplift of the poor and downtrodden in the last two and a half years by providing facilities such as housing, drinking water, ration cards, etc. In Rajahmundry alone, as many as 9,000 houses had been allotted to the poor and another 4,000 under the Rajiv Griha Kalpa scheme. Mr. Suryaprakasha Rao said 24, 463 new white-ration cards and another 24,026 pink cards apart from 2,017 cards under the Antyodaya scheme had been issued in the last six months.
