BITTER LESSON: Students of Government Boys Higher Secondary School at Fort in Salem undergoing punishment on Monday. - Photo: P. Goutham
SALEM: The birth anniversary celebration of Kamaraj at the Fort Corporation Boys Higher Secondary School here on Saturday has taught a group of Plus II students a bitter lesson. These students, about 150 of them, did not attend the function held in this connection on Saturday. When they came to school on Monday there awaited a punishment. The school authorities asked them to kneel in the school's open ground under the scorching sun for nearly 25 minutes. When contacted the school headmaster told The Hindu that despite prior announcement, nearly 100 studentsabstained from the function. "Many of those who did not attend the function figured in the list of prize winners of various competitions held on that day. It was quite embarrassing to find too many missing," he said. He claimed that many of them had gone to movie houses on that day. "If this insignificant issue is being blown out of proportions, then we can remain only as passive spectators to the acts of indiscipline", " he said.
