SALEM: The Salem District Crusher Jalli Manufactures Association has decided to reduce the prices of the blue metal and ordinary metal by Rs. 100 for two units in support of the State Government's efforts to control the prices of construction materials. According to a press release from president of the Association K.P. Ganesan, the decision was taken after a meeting convened by Collector N. Mathivanan with the association members. During the meeting, the Collector explained the efforts taken by the State Government to control the prices of the construction materials and asked the association members to reduce of prices of blue metal and ordinary metal. Following this, the association members had decided to support the Government's efforts and reduce the prices of blue metal and ordinary metal by Rs. 100 for two units, even though the prices of the aforesaid materials were less in Salem district when compared to the neighbouring districts. Accordingly, the manufacturers had fixed the price of the 3/4 blue metal at Rs. 2,400 for two units (present market rate Rs. 2,500) and ordinary metal at Rs. 900 (present market rate Rs. 1,000) for two units. However, the association has appealed to the people not to approach the middlemen for purchasing these materials. Instead, the association said, people could approach the manufacturers of these materials directly for purchasing. The manufacturers would arrange for the transportation of these materials at a lower cost, the release said.
