DINDIGUL: Technological advancements in higher education help students in rural areas get quality education and give them an opportunity to interact with experts in various fields, get their doubts clarified and enrich their knowledge, said K. Somasundaram, Professor, Gandhgiram Rural Institute. At virtual classes, there will be no teachers in the classrooms, but they will sit elsewhere and clarify your doubts. Inaugurating virtual classes, first of its kind in the district, at Pannaikadu Veerammal Paramasivam College in Batlagundu here on Monday, he said virtual classes have changed the method of teaching. Good teachers anywhere in the world could offer quality education to students in any corner of the globe. Now, students should change their attitude and method of learning. They should learn lessons at home and come to class only to clarify their doubts, a system being adopted in developed countries. Universities in developed countries adopted such a delivery mechanism to make students solution providers. Such efforts would convert students into skilled professionals, he said. "Opportunities for learning will be more than what you get now," said college chairman, K. Subramani. Later, technical experts pointed out that this technology, providing a live two-way audio and video interface, connected with V-Sat, has made interaction with faculties as natural and spontaneous as in regular classrooms. Guidance for career advancement, skill enhancement, English language improvement and placement support programmes were thrust areas of these virtual classes. Interacting with students in many villages immediately after launching virtual classes in Chennai, former captain of Indian cricket team K. Srikanth advised students to develop positive skills and work hard.
