HYDERABAD: The CPI (M) and CPI have demanded that the State and Central Governments take immediate measures to check the spiralling rise in prices of essential commodities. The two Left parties organised a joint protest rally from Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram to Ramnagar on Monday as part of a nationwide programme to protest against the Government's failure to check the price rise. CPI (M) State secretary B.V. Raghavulu, his CPI counterpart K. Narayana and other senior leaders participated. Mr. Raghavulu demanded that the Government bring in legislation, if necessary, to check the price rise, lest the Left parties intensify their protests. Though the Left had submitted concrete proposals that would help check the prices, the Centre failed to implement them.
Keshava Rao flayed
He criticised PCC president K. Keshava Rao for the latter's comments that conduct of agitations would not bring down the prices. "Where is the question of an agitation if necessary steps are taken by the Government?" he asked. Dr. Narayana questioned the Government's rationale in attributing the price rise to the steep rise in petroleum prices. "How can the Government make this claim when it has increased the petroleum prices?" he said. The price rise, according to him, was a result of the faulty policies of the Government that put a big burden on the people.
