Government diverting welfare funds, says Bharatiya Janata Party leader

Staff Reporter

Alleges swindling by ruling party leaders

ANANTAPUR: State general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) K. Laxman has alleged that the State Government has been diverting funds meant for welfare schemes for SCs, STs, BCs and minorities.

Talking to newspersons here on Monday, he alleged that welfare schemes for SCs, STs, BCs and minorities had run into problems after the Congress assumed power in the State. The schemes were in crisis due to diversion of paltry funds allocated for the purpose, he said. Future of welfare schemes appeared to be bleak due to diversion of funds, he said.

Funds allocated for all other schemes were being diverted to `Jalayagnam' by the State Government, denying even the meagre assistance to the needy. Most of the funds mobilised for Jalayagnam were being swindled by the ruling party leaders and contractors, he alleged.

He also criticised the State Government for encouraging other religions to carry out their religious activities on Tirumala hills. He warned that such appeasement would lead to social conflict, if not prevented immediately. The BJP would take up a campaign against other religious activities on Tirumala, he stated.
